Governor Patrick Stands Up for Small Business Insurance Relief

Yesterday, Governor Patrick testified before a joint legislative panel in support of his Jobs Bill, which provides immediate relief from double-digit healthcare rate increases to small businesses across the Commonwealth. The time for talk is over -- our small businesses can't afford to wait for action. Governor Patrick is the voice for these small business owners, and he is taking action now.

  • The Governor's bill introduces a "soft-cap" on hospitals, reduces administrative costs, and grants new oversight to the Commissioner of Insurance that protects small businesses from excessive or unreasonable rate hikes. By reducing health care costs, we can free up resources for small businesses to hire new workers and spark economic growth throughout the Commonwealth.
  • Governor Patrick is, and always has been, ready to make the tough decisions. The Governor has met with small business owners across the Commonwealth, and is carrying their voices to Beacon Hill.
  • Small businesses are the engine of job growth in Massachusetts. Their success will keep us on track to come out of this recession faster than the rest of the nation. The financial crisis has created an economic emergency for Massachusetts's small businesses, and The Patrick-Murray Administration is committed to offering assistance to this vital sector of our economy. The time for action is now -- let's work together for change.
  • The Governor has met with small business owners across the state. At his request, a series of health care hearings were held last week.
